MAURICE AT THE ALBERT HALL.
AN AUDACIOUS SUNDAY NIGHT "TURN."
Maurico Chevalier audaciously courted defeat when he sang to. 3,000 people in the Albert Hall one Sunday last month. The hall was two-thirds empty, and women form ed the vast majority of the audi-
e-nce.
His audacity and the enthusiasm of the 3,000 staunch Chevalier "fans" saved him from defeat, but even the crescendo of applause which greeted his Inst bows of | acknowledgment could not rise to the volume of cheers with which n full Albert Hal can stagger even the most sophisticated of artista.
He sprang, debonair, and slim, on the concert platform, with his be loved straw hat and fluent patter strongly seasoned with his French accent.
:
The spotlights flashed on him, and the audiones of: Chevalier "fans" applauded their idol. The applause lasted for more than a -quarter-of-a-minute, but it sounded hollow in that gargantuan sóunding- box.
