1-The objects of the Company are to organize a modern and up-to- date Shipyard and Repairing Works specialising in Motor-Ship. building and Repairing of Motors of all descriptions. The ship. yard will also undertake to build or repair vessels other than those driven by Diesel Engines and motors.⠀ .⠀

-It is a well-known fact that Motors, Motorships, and Diesel-

Engines are being built on an increased scale every year,

ing their steam engines with Motors and Diesel-Engines which are far more economical.

The latest Shipbuilding statistics show 90% for Motor-ships against 10% for steamships,

ADVERTISEMENTS

3.-We shall be in a position to tako full advantage of all the latest epoch-making inventions in ship-building and avoid having any -part-of our capital tied up in obsolete equipmenta... This means that a Motor Shipbuilding Yard with Repairing Works for all types of Motore will not only have now buildings to com- plete but will have' repair work on hand on an increased scale, owing to the facts mentioned in paragraphs Nos, 8 and 3. .8.-A Yard specialising in Motors raquires less machinery and equip ment than an ordinary shipyard, thus eliminating heavy and expensive plants for the building of boilers and other stes auxiliaries.

6. What is essential in a Motor Shipbuilding Yard is a well-equipped Repair Shop for Diesel Engines and Motora for land and ses and up-to-date facilities for docking ahipe.

7. We have purchased from the Hong Kong Government a most suitable space known as Kowloon Marine Lot No. 80 at To Kwa Wan, Kowloon Bay, with a total area of 222,000 sq. ft. with all buildings, etc. This area until recently was occupied for more than 28 years by the Kwong Tack Cheong Shipyard, Ltd., which has built more than 120 ships. -

.

8. The property has been purchased at a very reasonable price of $295,000. It was surveyed in 1926 and valued by Messrs. Denison, Rain & Gibbs at $393,000 and resurveyed and revalued by Messrs. Palmer & Turner in July, 1830, at 8343,400. This, of course, is the value of the land when used for ordinary purposes, but as a Marina Lot alrendy reclaimed and consolidated at considerable expense, its value should be fixed at a much higher price:

D. The buildings have been repaired, two new steel workshops have been erected and machinery, tools, etc., which have been pur- chased have arrived from Europe. The shipyard will soon be again fully equipped and in working order. "Four building berths for ships up to 300 feet length are at our disposal, and it is proposed to build four most up-to-date alipways for ships up to 300 feet in length.

10. The shipyard and repairing works are under the management of An experienced Motor shipbuilding,-Diesel-Engine, and Motor- Engineer who has been in Hong Kong since the last 10 years.

11. We shall be able to give our customers every satisfaction so far as good workmanship, and reasonable prices are concerned, because we shall have expert and experienced supervision, and also because we shall be able to run our works economically,

12. We should also like to mention that we shall first be supported by the Hoi Fook Shipping Co., Ltd., which has placed with the South China Motor Shipbuilding & Repairing Works, Ltd., an order for the construction of two up-to-date mater-ships of 300 tons deadweight each. It is the intention of the Directors of the Hoi Fook Shipping Co., Ltd., to place an order for two larger motor-ships upon the satisfactory completion of the first two vessels. Hence from the very bagianing we shall have sufficient work on hand to keep our shipyard busy.

13. In regard to repair work we shall also have ample support from the beginning, because we have got the promises of many well- known arms,

14.-Messrs. Brandt & Co., Ship Brokers, Shipping Agents, Marine- Valuers, Surveyors and Architects, are the General Managers. They have offices in both Hong Kong and Canton, and a Euro- pean Agent in Hamburg, Germany.

The Principal of this firm has had 24 years' wide experience in shipping and ship-building, and before coming to China he held, besides other responsible positions, the post of Mangging Director of a popular shipping concern in Hamburg.

15.-This prospectus serves only as a guidance to the Public.. Any further information and explanations will be gladly given by the General Managers, Messrs. Brandt & Co., St. George's Building, 3rd Floor, Chater Road.

We are, Dear Sirs.

Yours faithfully,

SOUTH CHINA MOTOR-SHIPBUILDING &

REPAIRING WORKS, LTD.

C.N.R. STEAMER

FLEET

MAY HAVE TO BE CUT

DOWN,

Whether the remaining ships of the Canadian National Steamships' floet, that is ships other than the new passenger liners of the West Indies and Pacific Coast fleets, are Ito be replaced by new ships or net in a matter that ils people of Cana da through the Government at Ot- tawa, will have to decide this win- ter, The Financial Times in inform- ed. It is pointed out that, at the. present time they can scarcely com pete with the steamers of other com- panies and other countrica. ***

If Ottawa decides not to replace these remaining obsolete, units, they will have to be abandoned and their trade routes discontinued. This would limit the Canadian National Steamships activities to the West. Indica and the Pacific Coast. Since there is room for expansion along these other trade routes, to Australia for example, it would. scem a shame to crop at one stroke half of the ocean activities of the organization which has raised the efficicnuy and prestigo of the Caña, dinn Merchant flag

Progress in reported annually now by the marine service which his come under the Canadian National Steamships. The five new yachtlike liners, of the West Indies feet have more than justified them- selves in uniting Canadian ports with ports of the British West In dies for the purpose of carrying pleasure seekers, business men and cargoes.

Pacific Fleet Doing Well,

The Heet which operates on the Pacific Coast is also making bead- way. Operating costs have been de- creased and returns have increased. The deficit of the steamship organi. zation is gradually being eliminat- ed. The feet carries on in a busi- nesslike way, asking, no favours, planning and revising, creating schedules and attends strictly, to business at all times,

Thirty-three ports are on the lists of sailings for the Canadian National Steamships. This list is only part of the year's pro- gramme, the part which concerns Belifax and St. John, which ports become the chief northern termini for these steamers when the St. Lawrence season of shipping doses in November until it openg again in April.

Outposts include Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, British Hoo- duras, Santo Domingo, Porto Rico,. St. Kitts, Antigua, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Barbados, Grenada, British Guiana, Montserrat, St. Vincent, Nevis, Trinidad, Vancou- ver, Seattle, Victoria, various ports in Alaska, various ports in New Zealand, Australia, and in South America, Santos, Montevideo anal Buenos Ayres-Financial Timer.
