The week under review has been on the whole fairly quiet, and activities, such as there were, have beer confined mainly on the part of many, to sha balancing of their

· October Settlement commitinenta.

The Settlement takes place to-day and from inquiries made in many quarters there seema to be co cause for anxiety. Although ad. justamenta may have to be made here and there. no actual hitch in arrangements is anticipated.

Prices on the whole have remain, ed steady; only in a few cases have! snall increases heen registered These were undoubtedly due to the approach of the Settlement, and a

falling-off in rates may be expected

this week.

HONG KONG BANKS-There was a fairly strong demand for Banks daring the week, and busi. mess was done at as high as $1,535 to 81,546. I understand the de- mand is still unantisfied, and prob- ably more will have to be paid this

week.

UNION INSURANCES – After bsness had been done at 81473, the demand eased off slightly for these shares, and buyers were not offer- ing more than 8445 on Saturday.

CIHNA UNDERWRITERS - There are sellers at $2.85, but Layers are offering only $2.80. There was a fairly" big "business done at $2.70 and 82.50 during the week under review.

DOUGLASES-These shares have come down to 890, and at this £gure & small lot changed hands. There as a demand for more shares at This figure, but they acom difficult to get.

STEAMBOATS-Shares were done at as high as 829 to 20.50 during the wook, and a further improve. ment is probable.

Pressure converged on the electri. cal equipment issues, due to the DAIRY FARMS--Shares changed | Inilure of Westinghouse to earn its hands at $20.50 to $20.75 and fur-dividend for the third quarter. ther shares are required at $20.50.

This contributed to the generat decline.
