ENGLISH AND SCOTTISH LEAGUE MATCHES
ON
SATURDAY.
"ARSENAL DRAW WITH SHEFFIELD UNITED,
Some high scores were recorded in the English League matches played on Saturday. The outstanding performance in the First Division was Aston Villa's victory over Huddersfield by six goals to one. Blackpool defeated Leicester by the odd goal in nine. Chelsen and Grimsby, on home grounds, beat the visitors in each case by four goals. Arsenal, the leaders, were forced to share the pointa with Sheffield United. The meeting of the twa Manchester teams ended in favour of the City, leaving the United without single point far.
Everton won by seven goals to one against Charlton. Preston North End and Millwall scored twolyo goals between them, tho points going to the former, who are thus again only one point behind the leadors. The Southern Section leaders, Notts County, registered their second victory during the week.' Torquay succeeded in getting the points at Northampton. Wrexham dropped from eccond to fourth position in the Northern Section consequent on their defeat by Tranmere. The latter are now behind the lenders, Lincoln City, who had a comfortable win over Barrow. Rother- ham gained the best average of the day by winning eight goals to one against Accrington.
Airdrie performed a creditable feat in the Scottish League by taking a point from the leades, each side scoring three goals. Celtic had a majority of three goals over Morton, but Motherwell lest one point to Clyde with the match producing eight goals.
