LOCAL FOOTBALL SEASON OPENS.
CHINESE ATHLETIC GIVE CONVINCING DISPLAY.
R.A.O.C. SCORE ELEVEN GOALS AGAINST SERVICE Corps.
The local football senson opened under ideal weather conditions on Saturday, no fewer than thirteen matches being played. Two matches in the Senior Division and one in Division II, were post- poned on account of the Volunteer sports, but in order to open their league programme together with the other sides, South China Athletic Association brought forward their fixture with the Somer. aels and won comfortably, by three goals to one.
Last year's champions, Chinese Athletic Association, played a' much-changed side and easily accounted for the Hong Kong Foot- ball Club by four goals to one. The Highlanders won their first lengas match at the expense of the Police, while the Artillery beat tho Royal Navy by four goals to two,
The standard of play in all three divisions was very high and as 'usual the Chinese teams in the Senior Divisions attracted largo. crowds of spectators. Once again everything points to another very successful season.

In spite of some excellent work by Dickinson for the Navy, the soldiers again netted, this time through Allea who scored again just before half-time.
The second half opened with the Runners attacking and before play had been in progress for minny minutes, Moure added a fourth goal for them. The Navy then forced play into their opponents' half, and a foul gave the splendid op portunity, from which Toomey man- aged to score.
Several minutes after Scorer.add- ed another goal for the Navy, with a Sne drive. The Sailors were now pressing hard and only the lusty clearing of the Gunners' defence prevented further scoring.
