TIN TOUCHES LOWEST POINT SINCE THE WAR.

The following weekly review of the metal markets, dated July 11, has been issued by Messrs. Rudolf Wolff & Co., London:-

There has been a little more activity in markets throughout the weck.

Overstocks have caused a slack demand for foreign sugar, which has resulted in a drop in prices.

There has been much activity in the Chinese fertilizer market as it is now the time for the farmers to sew for the latter part of the year. Arrivals are short and prices have gone up considerably.

The demand for Chinese raw sikk by foreign merchants has shown an increase. Some 8.354 bales (each bacle contains 20 antties of raw silk) were exported abroad during "last month. Of this amount, some 3,087 hales were exported to the United, States, 3,092 to France and 83 to Britain. The price during Inst month varied from H.K.8600 to H.K.9730 per bale.

Copper has been easier. The backwardation came down from £1 to 1/3, but on selling pressure of three months and lesser offerings of cash, the premium on the latter has extended to 3/ Dissatisfac tion is being expressed at the irre- gular movements in the price of Electrolytic, and consumers are üp- parently not disposed to cover more than their immediate requirements until there is more stability. Elec- trolytic is being offered c.i.f. U.K. at under the official price. Standard copper closes at a decline of 3/6 for cash and 13/. for three months as compared with the end of last week.

THE TIN SLUMP...

MINING FEES SUSPENDED IN SIAM.

As many of the holders of min ing lenses in Siam have had to ccase work, the Siamese Govern- ment has agreed to the suspension of the payment of mining des during the cessation of mining operations.

There is this condition, however, that when tin fetches a price equivalent to Tes, 110 per picul, this suspension is to be withdrawn and those holding mining leases must start operations within period of three months thereafter.

LORD BALFOUR'S DINNER SERVICE REALISES £3,434.

Some rare old English silver was. sold cut of the Scarsdale and Cur- zen heirlooms as well as the silver of the late Earl Balfour from Whit tingehame at Christie's recently.

One of the big prizes of the sale was Lord Ballour's dinner service of nearly two hu red pieces, made for the late Earl's grandfather, This was secured by a firm of London dealers for £3,484. Four silver gilt ice palla, £210, eight cir cular salt cellars by Pail Storr £187, and a pair of candelabra £67 were ether pieces from Whittingebame to letch big prices.

That part of the Scarsdale and Curzon heirlooms under the wills of the late Lord Scarsdale of Kedleston and the late Marquis Curzon of Kedleston which were sold included a Charles I silver gile pöttinger fuch over which
