The only high score recorded in a single innings was at Birmingham, where Warwick gathered 501 runs for six wickets against Essex, two of their men reaching three- figure scores, while one on the other side knocked up exactly one hundred. Four other batsmen were credited with centuries.
Northamptonshire gained their first victory by the small margin
of eight runs, Gloucestershire won by an innings, and Sussex took the points with eight wickets in band. Two matches were decided oo the first innings.
