Early in the session many of the groups grew, firmer, owing to the strength of yesterday's closing when there had been a short covering rally.

Rails were temporarily in de mand, and the Dow Jones average. for 20 rails was, up .91 to 114.90.. Erie was up to 47j. Pennsylvania was up a point to 781 New York Central held at 176. Northern Pacife was up a point to 831. Canadian Pacific likewise gained a point to clase at 908. Union Pacific was up 21 to $32.

The Copper Group... The copper group weakened upon the anaouacement that Calumet Arizona's dividend had been re- duced to G.82 against the previous dividend rate of G.86. Anaconda closed off to 381. Kennécott was up half a point to 40. Nevada Consolidated was off a quarter to 20. Calumet & Hecla wasting quarter to 191. American Smelting was off a quarter to 603.
