According to import and expert merchants, some G.8117,000 worth of American goods were imported into Canton during the month of April. During the same period. over G.81,000,000 worth of AmeriKroger Grocery... can goods were imported into Lambart, Hong Kong whence most of the goods were distributed to the coun try districts.

Business in local tanneries bas been bad in recent years due to heavy taxation by the Government. The new tax is said to be several times heavier than usual and mer chants are appealing to the Govern- ment to reduce the rate of the new tax. Hum- phreys Estates continue their up- ward movement and are in request at $168 Realtys were booked at $10:90. Shanghai Lands are wanted nt. Tis. 272.

Public Utilities.-Hong

Kong Trains have declined to 820.40 at which rate a large business was done. Hong Kong Electrics wero dealt with at 8704/80. Star Furries were taken off the market at 384/85. China Lights (Old) were again placed at 839, while the New shares at $24-have registered a fur- ther rise. Telephones were booked at the improved price of 814. Peak Trams (Old) changed bands and are wanted at $12 Sandakan Lights closed appreciably higher at Bah..

Miscellaneous.-Green Island Ce. ments (Combined) have fluctuated between $16.40 and 816.50: Dairy Farms after being offered at 828 came into strong demand and bugi- ness was done at gradually harden- ing rates up to 827, but shares are how obtainable at 8201. In consequence of the sharp drop in prices of raw silk, the amount of silk expe ted has been very limited since December last. Daring the first half of the present month only some 2,001 piculs of raw silk and 1,563 piculs of waste silk were ex norted, showing a decrease of 12 nictiles of raw silk and 450 piculs of waste silk over the corresponding period of last year........
