CHARGES DISMISSED AT KOWLOON;
LACK OF EVIDENCE BRINGS ACQUITTAL OF MEN..
Two separate charges of poss63- sion of seditious literature were brought against two Chinese before Mr. T. 9 Whyte Smith at Kow-7 loon Magistracy yesterday. In both cases the defendants were discharg ed owing to insuficient evidence.
In the first case the defendant was stated to have handed out seditious pamphlets in Canton Road 1 p.m. 00 April. 30. Evidence was given by a Chinese aho stated that the defendant came up behind him' and thrust à piece of printed paper into his hand, and walked on ahead. A little later the witness met a friend stand- ing talking to a Chinese detective. Being unable to read, witness hand- ed the pamphlet to his friend. The detective also read it and, finding it to contain seditious matter, in- mediately asked witress where he got it from. Witness pointed to the defendant little way ahead. The detective arrested "the man and fouad one copy of the printed matter on his person.

The Magistrate discharged the defendant with a caution, and re- marked that it would be relying too much on the evidence of oan witness to register a conviction: against the defendant.
Alleged Scattering.
In the second case, the defendant was charged with possession at 1.30 a.m. in Sham Shui Po. Exidence was given by a Chinese constable, who said that he saw the defendant standing under an are lamp in Nam Cheong Street. He saw the 'defendant, make a mattering move- meat with his hand and walk on." The constable. followed the defen- dant and found printed pamphlets lying on the road. He picked them up and arrested the defendant.
The defendant claimed that he saw them on the ground and picked them up.
At the same moment the constable arrested him.
