New York, May 12-Opening prices on the New York Stock Ex- change to-day were firra but trading was dull, says the daily review of the Dow Jones Financial News Agency,

Effects of Profit Taking.
Largely because of profit-taking prices broke sharply just before the close. The firmness which was in
evidence earlier in the day partly resulted from the fact that copper had advanced to 13 ecats. after remaining at 12} cents. last week. Anaconda Copper closed up 1 to 094, though American Snelting was off half a point to 1 Calumet & Hecla rose half a point to close at VOA and Nevada Consolidated was up a point to 98.
U.S. Steel broke first among the market leaders when the decline began, many traders showing an aloofness with the idea of remain- ing out of the "market until con- ditions became more settled. The close found Steel off 1 to 1713, with Bethlehem still up a quarter to 98. furlium was of 324 The Dow Jones average for 30 in- destrials was off 1.85 to 70.16.

Utilities showed a slight decline and the Dow Jones average for 20 utilitics was off 150 to 100.54, Electric Bond & Share declined 1; to 101. American Tel. & Tel. was off 1 to 2403 nnd International Tet. Tel, was off half a point to 631. Public Service of New Jersey was off an eighth to 1137: Standard Gas was off to 1151; Consolidated Gas was off 1 to 1964; and Columbin Gas showed one of the few advances by closing up 1 to 80%.

Macao is well represented, as is also China,. A splendid selection of the latter being offered. There are a thous and French colonials in one lot, and 3,100 stamps, all différent, in
