The Dow Jones average for 30 industriala, showed a gain for the day, being up 1.37 to 230.68. Beth lehem Steel was off a quarter to 931. Ludlum was likewise off a quarter, to 29. Allied Chemical rose i to close at 302. Du Pont was off two points to 193. Johns Man ville rose 4 to close af 108. East man likewise soared. closing up 8 to 232. U.S. Rubber gained to close at 26% U.S. Pipe & Foundry closed at 281.

Utilities were" off 41 on the Dow Jones average, but Electric Bond & Share recovered slightly, closing up half a point to Go American Forvign Power closed at 731. Con- solidated Gas was up to 1221. Columbia Gas was up 2 to72, Radio Closed up 1 to 471 and Standard Gas was up 1 to 109).

An application for the arrest of three Chinese workmen who, it was alleged, had defrauded one of the relatives of the victims of the May 30 affair, when a grant was made by the Shanghai Municipal Council to the Victims Families Associa- tion, was heard in the Shanghai District Court on May 6 when Mr.T.134 Wu Ping Yat, for the Association, said that he would prefer a charge of fraud against the three persons.
