MARINE COURT CASES

WITNESS WHO DID NOT

KNOW.

At the Marine Court yesterday, a case was dismissed by Comdr, G. F. Hole when it was only half way through, as Mr. N. K. Littlejohn, of the P.W.D., who was in the wit- ness box, said that he did not know the defendant, nor had he ever seen the man!

The case was the result of a lorry driver being arrested when caught dumping building rubbish into the barbour. The man had evidently furnished a wrong name to the Police, consequently the sum- mons was served on an innocent man i

Proceedings at this Court were disturbed for some minutes by the ring of crackers in the vicinity After a while, the Magistrate asked the senior police officer present in Court if he would send someone out to investigate whether the parties firing the crackers had prmission to do so. The Indian sergeant who

sent out returned Was minutes after with the information that a permit had been obtained.

For carrying cargo on her boat, the mistress of a passenger boat was fined $6 by the Marine Magistrate yesterday.

A Naval Wireless message states that a floating beacon showing an intermittent flashing light of weak power has been moored in latitude 4 degrees north, longitude 11 de gress, 38 minutes east, for experi mental hydrographic purposes, and will be extinguished or exhibited during the next few months "with- out further orders.
