SOME TIPS AND SELECTIONS.
Junk Bay Plate.
Today's racing commences with
a seven furlongs event in which ail contenders will start at "weight for inches. In view of Zorban's good performance on Saturday, he should have little difficulty in or counting for the race here. Pickle and Chesapeake Bay might accept also, and I should nominate them for the places.

There should be nothing to touch President Hall in this long race and, in my opinion, even Royal Flush and Boxing Eve, both of which are in tip-up condition, Place.annot come near this grey.

We should see some of the best subs out in this race, but I am still waiting to see which. one could best Bridge Hall in view of his present form. Cream Cracker might run him very close, but whe- ther he will beat Bridge Hall in another question. Zephyr carries 150 and might be worth remember- ing. I see The Jamaich and The Ape are both entered but they are not in condition just now should not worry punteri

Mirs Bay Handicap "A" Class.
In view of Christmas Chimes good performance on Saturday, he should start favourite in this race, considering the small weight which he will be carrying. Winsome Stag might be kept "back for this event also, in which case, the pate should be pretty hot, as Four Clubs, Fifty Fifty, and Monterey Bay are some of those who are under the 150 pounds mark.
Mira Bay Handicap "D" Olasa.
If Movanngher can stay a mile, he should win here. Martini Cocktail is worth remembering and Pumpkin, Strathroy, Sunlech aro also worth an odd ticket each way,

FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST, HONG KONG.
"Doctrine of atonement" was the subject of the Lesson-Semon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, yes terday.
The Gelder Text was: " If any man be in Christ, he is a new crea- ture old things are passed; behold, (11. all things are become new." Cor. 5: 17).
Among the citations which com. prised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: "These words apake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy son also may glorify thee.

For non-winning griffins of this. season, this race over a mile and a quarter is going to provide a big dividend. Abel or Christmas Belle will have Mr. Heard on the saddle and will probably start favourite. Starling Stakes.
On the face of the conditions of run here if I am right in stating- this race, Sonny Boy is eligible to that he has won to date, only $1,000 in stakes and can, therefore, run in this race, which is confined to subs of this season which have not won more than $1,000 in stakes. He should repent his performance of Saturday. Thracian, Shanghai Beau and Dunce also are some of the more prominent ones.
The Lesson-Sermon also includ- ed the following pages from the Christian Science text-book--
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker He is above sin or frailty. He does Eddy:"Man is deathless, spiritual. not cross the barriers of time into the vast forever of Life, but he coexists with God and the universe." (P. 260).
TARIFF BARRIERS IN FRANCE.
RETALIATORY DUTY ON. MOTOR-CARS. AIMED AT AMERICA.
Pazza, April 12. A sensation has bees caused in French industrial circles by the sud- den announcement by the Govern ment of an increase in the Customs import duty on motor-cars from 25 per cent, to 60 per cent. This in- crease is chiefly directed against the United States' increase of tariff duties. It is expected that this-in- crease will practically exclude from the French market all foreign-made automobiles.
