Detective Sergeant Fitches told the Court that the complainant was bargaining with a hawker when he felt someone tugging at her coat pocket. Turning round, she saw a boy running away. She soon .discovered that her pocket had been picked and that four. dollars were issing. She raised an alarm and chased the defendant, who was caught by an Indian constable out- side

Defendant's story that the money was placed in his pocket by the netual thief was discredited by the Magistrati, who gave him twelve strokes of the birch.

A mother who was anxious as to her son's whereabouts, found him, after much searching, in the dock in. Mr. A. W. G. H., Grantham's Court yesterday morning.

The boy was arrested following a larceny at a book store in Holly wood Road. It was stated that the hoy examined a number of books and, slipping one under his coat when he thought he was not being 'observed, he left the shop. He was, however, arrested.

The complainant was not in "Court during the proceedings and the Magistrate asked the mother if she had settled the matter with the shopkeeper.
