TRANSPORT PROBLEMS:
[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "HONG KONG DAILY PRESS."]
SI-I am greatly disappointed in "Shareholder." I had formed the opinion that he knew something. about the rail-less trolley vehicle: Now, however, he says that he takes it for granted that tramcars could be conveniently altered to and tised as trolley vehicles.
The passage of's camel through the eye of a needle, the adaptation of a locomotive to heroplane work, and the conversion of the under Erame and truck of a tramcar to the chassis of & trolley vehicle are equally difficult tasks-Yours, etc.,
L. C. BELLAMY,
General Manager.

[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "HONG KONG DAILY PRESS."]
SIE-Apropos the recent corres pondence which has appeared in the Press and the remarks made by. the Chairman at the annual meeting of the Tramway Company regarding tram v. "Buses, it is of interest to read what Lord Ashford said at the last general meeting of the Underground Railways, Ltd., recently:
"The total number of passen- gers carried by railway, tramway and omnibus amounted to 9,175 millions.. The tramways carried 9 per cent.; the railways 18 per cent and the buses 73 per cent. These figures bring out in forcible manner the predominance of the omnibus within your group of com panies. If I look further afield at the whole of the traffic carried by local agencies in Greater. London, I find, that the omnibus share amounts to about 863 per gent, of the whole.”
For many years, the Singapore Tramway Company was operated at loss, and the unfortunate share- holders were at last compelled to reconstruct the policy, which in- cluded, first and foremost," the employment of experts in tradic management. The whole tramway system was scrapped, and 'buees and rail-less trams were placed on the roads, with the result that share. holders are now getting a dividend for the first time on their invest. ment.
I understand the local tramway company have only a few more years before the royalty is increas ed by 25 per cent., and with receipts

is none too bright. Shareholders should petition the Board to bring out an expert, unprejudiced in traffic matters, to make a report as to the future policy, and, not allow their interest to be jeo pardized by a management which, judging by results, has shewn itself to be incapable of progressive deve lopment.
At present there is serious appre hension among many of us that our interests are not being controlled to the best advantage-Yours, etc., ANOTHER SHAREHOLDER. Hong Kong. April 8.
SHOULD ONE GO TO CHURCH?
[TO THE EDITOR OF THE. HONG KONG DAILY PRESS."]
Sin, The elergy up at the Cathe- dral seem determined to commit suicide-figuratively, of course!
Worship, we are told, is a funda mental need of the human soul; man was created to glorify God. Very well, and since according to the Christian religion there are very sovete penalties in store for. those neglecting this fundamental duty, there is surely no room for argument among Christiane-ds to what they should do when the urge.
