New York, March 31-Utility issues on the New York Stock Ex- change gained from one to four points, featuring the market on to day's trading, says the daily review of the Dow Jones Financial News Agenty. The Dow Jones average for 20 utilities was up" .72. to 106.13.

The leading industrials were irre- gular while the rails were dull, with the Dow Jones average, for 30 industrials off .09 to 296.10, and for 20 rail of .68 to 157.98.

Oils quieted after showing early strength, though Standard of New York was up to 352 at the close; Continental was up 11 to 28): Shell Tinion gained to close at 23); and Phillips Petroleum closed up i 'tà 389.

The majority of the mater issues eased off. General Motors were off "half a point to 40% at the close. Hudson, however, gained half a point to close at 56j, Packard was off 1 to 22. Chrysler declined a

Columbia Gas and Common- wealth & Southern gained substan- tially and were in good demand throughout, the former dosing up 41 to 1044 and the latter up 1 to 19. Commonwealth & Southern warrants closed up to . Staa dard Gas & Electric was up an righth, to 313. Electrie Bond & Share gained 21 to close at 112.

Among the rails, Pennsylvania was off to 851; New York Central was off 1 to 1883: Erie held 80:- Baltimore & Ohio gained a quarterpoint to 120 Canadian Pacific was off a quarter-point to 213; Union Pacific declined two points to 240: and Northern Paci fic was down 1 to 05..

Gain in Steel Shares. U. S. Steel gained to close at 1933. Bethlehen Stel was up 1 to 1084 and Ludlum Steel was off to 39 American Rolling Mill. held at 91 American Con was of 1 to 1521," Allied Chemienl" was up 1 to 3033. Timken Roller Bearing gain- ed to close at 854.

C S. Rubber was up 31 to 334. Goodrich Rubber was up 1 to 51, and Goodyear Tire & Rubber was up 24 to 001.
