She had an income of between market. £300 and £600 a year.
Miss Smith made a will in May, 1929, and left to her nurse. Miss Mary McMichael, aged 36, the sum of £1,000 and £30 a year for the years she was in her service.
Mr. Ingleby Oddie was the coroner.
Sir Bernard Spilsbury and Dr. Boche Lynch, of the Home Office, stated that Miss Smith's sudden death was accelerated by the taking of drugs.
General Genaro Garcia, president of the Mining Chamber, points out that bullion silver is selling at 42 vents while manufactured article retail at about $3. Under such con- ditions it is possible for the mining men to compete with the plated sil- verware manufacturers, not only disposing of larger quantities of their output but even making a profit for themselves.
Such a course Mr. Garcia believes to be wise, even if it is necessary Dr. Archibald R. H. Bland for the silver producers to direct stated that he had known. Indications are that action on the lines outlined may be taken by the miners in the near future if there is not a prompt improvement in the tacties of the manufacturers of silver articles.

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS,
RUSTICATED. ·
The behaviour of three men stud- ents at Alberdeen. University at a dance held in the University Wo. men's Union has resulted in their being rusticated sine, die by order of the University Senatus, who held ao inquiry into their conduct.
One of the men now rusticated is alleged to have turned on the jet of a chemical fre extinguisher at the dance and to have caused 'con- siderable damage by spraying ita contents about.
Recent letters from students of the University, published in the undergraduates' weekly magazine, have condemned in strong terma what was described as "disgraceful and reprehensible conduct" and the Buisance caused in student circles by swashbuckling bravadoes."
A mass meeting of the students was later held to institute an ap. peal for modification of the punish ment by a section of the students. The Secretary of the University, in a letter conveying to the three students the decision of the seastus, states that the senatus had found that they were guilty of conduct highly prejudicial to the Univers- ity.

"ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT."
LIKELIHOOD OF SERIOUS TROUBLE OVER THE FILM.
war
Berlin, March 30:-The film-ver- sion of Remarque's famour novel "All Quiet on the Western Front," which is just being com- pleted, is likely to give cause for serious trouble between author and. publisher on the one hand and the American film producers on the other.
Both Herr Remarque and his publisher have lodged a strong pro- test with the American company following allegations, made in the Reichstag by the representative of the German Foreign Office that the film-version of the novel is being perverted, into anti-German drama.
др
Remarque's publisher, further- more, announced that at the time when the film rights were sold to the United States, a special clause was inserted in the contract express- ly providing that the film-version must not offend German suscepti- bilities. Should it actually be proved that this undertaking had been violated, the announcement ad- ded, both publisher and author would not hesitate to take the nect sary steps to enforce the observance of the clause.—Trans-Ocean' Kuo Min.

Evidence was given that Standen was caned for disobeying rules on a school bus. He was given four strokes with the cane, and fainted just after the last stroke. In fall. ing he cut his check.
The boy said the caning was much more severe than those he had had before. Another boy who was can- ed with him said he received about the same as Standen.
Rogers denied that the punish- ment was unduly severe. The school nurse who dressed the boy's check said she saw no signs on his bunds of the caning.
