During the period under review the local market bas continued buoyant and in spite of the near approach of the March Settlement- higher rates in some cases have again to be recorded. . The turnover has been on a moderate scale, 'much' of which has been in the nature of liquidation of the impending settle. ment. When this has been safely completed we may so a better de msad for both "investment and speculativo counters.

Banks-Hong Kong and Shang- hai Banks come through from Lon- don at £107.10 (Middle) with a. amall business dong locally at $1,377 and further sellers at $1,370. Marine and Fire Insurances- Unions were realised again at 8300/401 closing with buyers at the former quotation. Hong Kong Fires have advanced to 8813. Can- tons changed hands at 8775: Un- derwriters have eased off to 91.30.

Shipping-Hong Kong, Canton and Macao Steamboats have again improved and were sold at 827, the market closing with sellers at 8271, Waterboats can be placed at 821 Douglas. Steamships continue or offer at $31. Shell Transports are unchanged.

Docks, Wharves and: Godowns.-- Kowloon Wharves have been a firm market and the price has made further headway to $147. Wham- poa Docks at $33 have not moved. Deals were made in China Pro- vidents at the improved price of $3.15, Shanghai Docka are to be had at Tls. 193. Hongkew Wharves are in demand at Tia. 216. New Engineerings, with a dividend of 50 candareens pending, are enquir ed for at Tis. 7:80.

Lands, Hotels and Buildings| A fairly large business has been done in Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels at 81270/812.90. This Com- pany has declared a dividend of 30 cents per share, and 'is_payáblé, on April 5 Hong Kong Lands came in for a good deal of enquiry at higher prices and were dealt in at the close at 866). Shanghai Lands have appreciated to Tis. 240.

Public Utilities China Lights (Old) after being offered at $10.40 came into strong demand and were steadily bid up to 821.10, resulting in large purchases at intervening $12.90 rates. The new shares have also 8653 strengthened in sympathy and are in request at $16.

Hong Kong Electrics were negotiated at the outset at 860, but gradually re- covered to a buying quotation of $87. Star Ferries were dealt in extensively at 867. Hong Kong

Trams were sold at $191/810.90 ex the final dividend of 50 cents just. raid. Telephones, closed appre ciably higher with business done at 11.10 closing with buyers at 8114.

Cemcute (Combined) were taken off. Miscellaneous. - Green Island the market at $14.40 ex the dividend of 21 cents just paid. Raubs have been strong and the price has made were sold down to 88.40, further headway to 819. Ropes Dairy Farms are on offer at $20 ex the

dividend of $1.50 just paid. Lane Crawfords have fallen away $2.80.
