SCANDALOUS ALLEGATIONS

4 GAMBLING" IN EWOS:

Three actions growing out of share transactions on the Shanghai' Stock Exchange were brought be fore His Honour-Judge G. W. King, O.B.E.. in E.M. Supreme Court, Shanghai, last week.

The largest was that brought by Mr. Victor Gensburger, against Mr. Meyer Shibbeth which involved Tis 71,506.82. Mr. M. Reader Harris appeared for plaintiff, says the X.-C. Daily News, and Mr. Ranald C. McDonald for the defence. After hearing brief argument on the part of counsel, Judge King ordered pleadings. The suit is the result of alleged share transactions in 1999 and counsel for plaintiff said that two promissory notes were held by his client in the amount named. The defendant's affidavit pleaded Statule of Limitations..

Pleadings were also ordered in the action of Shahmoon, Reynell & Co., members of the Shanghai

Scandalous Matter Alleged. Judgment for Tls. 23,237.48 wasi given plaintiff in the action of Mr. J. Rosealeld, a member of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, against Mr. M. E. Solomon, in respect of certain share transactions in 1990 which defendant, who appeared on his own behalf, went on at some length to explain to His Honour. Mr. M. Reader Harris appeared for plaintiff.

At the opening of the case counsel for plaintiff asked the case to be adjourned one week as he did not wish certain clauses in the affidavit to be read aloud because they were scandalous and irrelevant Judge King could not see why the case should be adjourned on this account and said, that he could hear the case without reading the affidavit aloud, which was done..
