Definition of TRAVELLERS' CHEQUES—

"The system of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1971 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the chequea under the trade name" of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS' CHEQUES the word 'Travellers' being spelled with ons "1" The ad antage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system.”
