*The system of Travellery Cheques was originated in 1801 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a forma of travel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the choques under the trade Dame of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS' CHEQUES" the word 'Travellers' being spalled with one "I". The adantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system."
