Messrs. Pentreath & Co. bave forwarded "us the following letter, dated November 1, from Mesars. Hornby, Hemelryk & Co., Liver- pool:-

The market registered a further decline during the week under re view, but there has been a sharp recovery, and, on balance, values are unchanged to 3d lower,

The weakness has latterly come from America, where the 'indiffer- ence of Refiners has led to outside seliers accepting considerably lower prices for actual, and the Wall the Sugar market in company with Street collapse has also refleeted on the other commodity markets..

British Refiners, after their ex- tensive purchases last week, are also out of the market at present, and until there is a renewal of trade demand, no fresh purchases of Thaw's can be expected from that

quarter.

Keen competition still exists be

STEAMBOATS-Some business was registered in this stock at 827 and $27.50, and the market closed at the end of the week with buyers at the latter rate.

WHARVES-These shares were handled in fairly large numbers during the week, buyers baving to pay from $141.30 to $142. Further shares are wanted at the latter price, but sellers appear to be

scarce.

PROVIDENTA fair business was done at lowering rates. Early in the week shares were sold at 86.45 and $3.40, but buyers then withdrew and at the close there are sellers at the latter figure without any sales being recorded.

HUMPHREYS are being inquir- e-1 for at $14.23 after sales had been pus through at 814.40.

SEEKERS-1. This stock is a bit on the high side already. The company is doing very well, but the share price is not going up brenuse of the already inflated value of the stock." There is like: lihood of strong competition locally in the near future. 2. This is very speculative if you in tend to hold on for only a few months: On the other hand, if you can hold for a year or so. put your money on this stock. 3. This stock is worth more than its present quotation, but unfor. tunately is a favourite with specu- lators, and it is difficult to know what is going to happen at any time. Why not try something else, say Trains, for instance.

tu

NIBBLE-You have nothing

SECOND-I think this Company is quite sound, but I do not think share prices will go up unless something in the nature of a "boom" sets in next year, which is not improbable. On the whole, I would advise you to wait.

Our New York correspondents cabled last night that the Licht estimate is considered somewhat bearish. Business in the actual market

Another cable to hand this mern- ing from New York says that rumours that the syndicate who tock up delivery of September con- tracts are now liquidating have unsettled the market. The selling bas uncovered stop orders and brought out increased offerings of Raws. Reaners are still reticent and declining firm offers, at' ?c:
