Portsmouth has achieved another creditable feat, following up their five goals victory at Leicester, by accounting for Blackburn. Rovers by four clear goals. This reverse for the Rovers commea soon after their score of eight goals the previous week. The leadership of the First Division changed from Leeds United to Manchester City. Wednesday, with a score of 1-2 against Manchester United, secured second place on goal average. DERBAX, Nov. 16. Yesterday's police raid, which ostensibly was carried out to deal with poll-tax defaulters, was re- peated to-day in the heart of the town.
There is considerable public un- easiness due to rumours in circula tion to the effect that the police have got wind of a sinister native organisation working behind the scenes. It is suggested that the real purpose of the raids is con- nected with this peril.
Large numbers of natives still refuse to pay the poll-tax, pleading conscientious objection. They have accepted the alternative of impri-
