Mr. Heikichi Ogawa,, Ministas of Railways in the inte Taunks Cabinet, and Baren Tanaka's chief political lieutenant, was summoned to the Public Procurator's office to-

day for questioning in connection with charges of bribery involved in granting numerous private railway building permits, also the Govern ment's purchase of several private lines just before the downfall of the

Tanaka ministry.

According to the vernacular Press, Mr. Ogawa is charged with Receptance of 800,000 yen. The case has caused a tremendous senza tion in political circles, for al though since the change in Cabinets there have been numerous seandais, -involving officials of a former re- gime, Mr. Ogawa is the first ex- Cabinet, Minister to be involved.

The existing political crisis has been intensified by the resignation of the Chancellor, Dr. Streeruwitz.

His resignation was due to the Land League holding that the pre- sent Government was insuficiently strong to carry through reform of the constitution. Consequently, they requested the Vice Chancellor, M. Schumy, their representative, to withdraw from the coalition, thus forcing Dr. Streeruwiz's hand.

The meeting was held owing to his recent visit to the Dominion, where he discovered that large contracts for British coal could be obtained if the price' were suitable. Among cosiowners present at the
