CASE.

A Marine Court of Enquiry was held at the Harbour Office yester day morning to re-hear the circum. stances under which Mr. W. G. C. Beck, formerly Chief Officer of the river steamer Kwong Fook Cheong, missed his ship on the evening of August when it sailed for Kong moor.

Mr. J. T. Prior was for the defence and Captain W. Perritt, master of the 3.5. Kwong Fook Cheong, appeared. as complainant.

The Court WAS as follows:- President, the Hon. Commander G. F. Hole: Lt.Comdr. L. G. Adding ton, D.S.C. (H.M.S. Tamar), Capt, G. Mathews (Mau Sang), Capt. A Campbell (Sa On), and Capt. A. H. Brown (Kwong Tung),

The re-bearing was granted on a point of law on the previous Court's finding which adjudged the act to be misconduct. The law misconduct requires that "gross

be found before a certifiente can be suspended.

Captain Perritt, master of the Kwong Fook Cheung stated that after the vessel left Hong Kong at 6.45 on the evening of August 2,

Defendant in the Box, Defelidant said that he received his wages from the Captain about 3.30 p.m. on the afternoon of receiving the August 2. was walking towards the ship when found that he had left his wallet at the shop.

He started to walk back at about 0.10 p.m. to the ship and ar- rived at about 4.55 p.m. only to find that the Kwong Book Cheung had left. He rejoined the ship when it returned on August 4 be- Witness said he had had several tween 1 p.m. and p.m. drinks before he rejoined the ship but did not consider that he was druck.

In reply the President, defen- dant said that when the previous proceedings were held he had not troubled to check the times he was at various places just before he missed his ship but he had since enquired from the shops and now know the times more definitely.

Tie Between Cousins.

seen

The best match of the day was between the andoubtedly cousins H. D. and S. A. Rumjahn. It was generally expected that 8. A. would wis, but those present held a different view shortly after be start. H. D. produced very fne form, and got in his shots with reinarkable accuracy. Opening with a lead of 1-love, he lost it at 1-2; but began to upset his cousin's game by brilliant all-round play which drew forth repeated applause from the gallery. In this manner, he won five consecutive games, to claim the first set.

The real struggle took place in the second set. S. A. serving, took the lead, but H. D. equalised, and so it went on till 4 all. Each know. ing the other's weak points, maneuvring became the feature. In this, of course, S. A. had the better by dint of a better know" Judge of tactics, and made H. D. fail at many an apparent casy shot, but H. D. returned most of S.A.'s diffoult shots, especially, those fast running drives which he (H.D.) dealt with severely at the net. At 54, in his favour, S.A. broke through this cousin's service to

6. A. showed up strongly in the final set and by dint of determina

tion and hard hitting, kept the lead 3-1, 3-3, 4-2, 4-3,5-3, and eventually

won at 6-3,

There has been a great tevival of interest in wrestling in Austra lia, and the sport is almost eclips ing boxing at the Sydney Stadium. An important match was staged when George Walker, of Canada, described as the British Empire champion, made Joe Banasks, of Poland, quit in the eighth round.
