A CLEARANCE.
MAGISTRATE'S WARNING
of
The
Chinese master
the Japanese motor schooner Hooei Maru was before Commander. G. F. Hole at the Marine Court yesterday morning for leaving the port of the Colony without a clearance permit from the Harbour Office. Lance- Sergeant Gardiner prosecuted and the defendant pleaded guilty.
In convicting the defendant, His Worship pointed out that con- siderable trouble had arisen owing to motor-boats leaving the Harbour. without a clearance permit. The masters knew perfectly well that they were required to get a permit. 300 The only inference which could be drawn was that they left the Colony for an illegal purpose. His Wor- ship said that he had already given 1.warning and, now, he could not go back on his words. A fine of 8400 or six months hard labour was imposed, His Worship, point- ing out that the next case of this kind would be still more severely dealt with, and that the maximum fine of 8500 would be imposed.
