Owing to heavy taxation and to the large arrivals of Japanese and Swedish matches, the match making' industry in Kwangtung has been doing badly for years. The indus- try was further affected lately as large quantities of matches have been smuggled into Corton and the country districts. The match mADU- facturers' Association has appealed to the taxation authorities to do their best to stop this

Business, conditions in Wuchow are improving day by day and for more goods are being exported and imported than two weeks ago. Steam launches and tow boats are busy and shipping firms who were. badly hit by the inter-Kwang war- fare are doing fairly well. Only a few of the vessels, commandeered by the Kwangsi troops have been re- turned to the owners, the rest hay- ing been destroyed by the troops.

The hosiery industry in Canton is growing rapidly, and the number of factories Fae increased during the past few yeare. Numerous or ders are received this year from textile merchants in the Malayan.
