The main diffculty at the begin ning was that the standard of play among the ladies could not be judged with accuracy. Whilst Clubs

like the Chinese Recreation, Kow. Inon CO and Ladies' Recreation, who had signified their intention to compete, had reliable match exponents, the others were at sea with regard to their positions. In the midst of this excitement, a short period only was allowed to the various Clube to decide whether to

enter or not,

*

The sporting spirit, however, pre- vailed, and in spite of a good many uncertainties as to the capabilities and qualifications of their represen- tatives, various Clubs sent in their entries for the Mixed Doubles League. These were: Kowloon Cricket Club, Chinese Recreation Club, Craigengower Cricket Club, Ladies Recreation Club, University, Club de Recreio and Kowloon Bowl- ing Green Club.
