PREMIUM ON GOOD RECORDS,

A large number of traffic cases were taken at the Central Magistracy yesterday, both Mr. E. W. Hamil- ton and Major C. Willson being fully engaged. According to the Trailo. Department there were 172 cases on the list.

Good records in many cases saved chauffeurs from heavy, fines, the most notable instance being that of Abbas Bin Ali, who was subtunned 950 before Mr. E. W. Hamilton for pass- 22ing a motor car on a bend. 275

Sergt. Saunders stated that on 257 April he was driving car No. 9177 985 up the hill going from Repulse Bay 273 to Stubbs Road, At a bend, the

One effect of the drought has been to increase the amount of salt produced this year and prices have fallen. No salt has been imported into the Colony recently."

The fruit merchants have received i telegram from Tientsin saying that there is a big demand for dates and every probability of a rise in prices.

Onions are among the principal agricultural products of Kwangtung and are exported in huge amounts to Malaya and Europe through Hong Kong, the current price of onion varies from $7.50 to $9.50 per picul.

incident, large consignments of Japanese goods have been import- ed into this Colony awaiting tran- shipment to Canton and the country districts. These goods are now held up owing to the decision of the anti-Japanese boycott to continue its activities and a strict search for *** undesirable, goods is still going on and causing further losses to the merchants. It is reported that the "boycott will continue until the Japanese troops entirely evacuate Tsinan and then it remains to be seen what excuse the Committee will make to continue its activities, or whether it will branch out in another direction.
