Three employees of the Kowloon Motor Bus Company were before Mr. T. S. Whyte Smith at the Kow loon Magistracy yesterday at the instance of an Indian constable. He accused the first defendant a conductor-of soliciting passengers, and the other two defendants-a bus regulator and a ticket Inspec- tor, of obstructing him in the course of his duty. Mr. L. H. C. Calthrop, A.S.F., Kowloon pro- secuted, while Mr. D. L. Strellett appeared on behalf of the three de- fendants.
At the outset of the proceedings, Mr. Strellett applied for permis- sion to take out a cross-summons against the constable for alleged, assault, and, to have the two sum- monses heard at the same time. The prosecution having no objec- tion the Magistrate agreed. Out- lining the case for the prosecution,. Mr. Calthrop said that at about 4.45 p.m. on the afternoon of April 3, the Indian constable was at the Star Ferry. His duty was to con trol the traffic, to see that there were nu obstruction, and to stop soliciting by ricksha coolies or motor buɛmen. The complainant saw the first defendant who was the conductor of 'bus No. 663 calling out and he went over to him and told him to stop soliciting.
