MŘ. R. H. CHARLES WINS THREE RACES. Mr Cave's Mavanagher
[BY EARLY BIRD.]
Considering the weather was a little on the bot side a very happy band of racegoers were presens to witness the concluding meeting, of the FanlingHunt steeplechases which were conducted at Ewangti racecourse yesterday afternoon.
Considering the scarcity of entries the racing was extremely good and an abundance of thrills tended to make the meeting one of the most exciting during the season.
The Fanling Steeplechase Cham. pious which was the principal race on the card, was easily accounted the card, was easily accounted for for by Mr. Ulster's Ace of Spades in fortless fashion atter making his own running for the whole part of the journey. Mr. Ulster, who was the only owner to annexe a double succeeded in also winning the April Handicap with his emination,
Erin's Isle.
Mr. R. H. Charles was the most successful rider, winning three races and securing one second out of four
starts.
Mr. N. Hashim My Lady was beaten for the first time out of Sve start After the race it was ascertained that she had twisted a shop during the race, which evident- ly was the cause of her defeat.

The Regimental band of the Somerset Light Infantry rendered very excellent programme of music which was thoroughly enjoy *ed by all present.

The Fanling Chaniplon Steeple- chase.
Ace of Spades is undoubtedly one of the most improved ponies at our country meetings, and was respon- sible for a wonderful effort in yes- terday's meeting, for he got a tre- mendous break cr the field which increased at every jump, till be finally crossed the water jump in a canter and was pulled up by his rider, who allowed him to walk leisurely past the winning post just as the second pony was taking the last jump.
It was rather a disappointment that there were not more than three starters as Mr. Ulster, his owner, certainly did not get much chance of avenging the which the lightly weighed As You Like It had administered at the previous meeting.

Bronze Idol, who evidently dis likes hurdling as much if not more than fat racing, was an awful wash- out and refused to jump in spite of the fact that he had completed the course on his first trial last Satur day morning. He disgraced himsel entirely, and was finally taken off the course and returned to his stable.
Summer Consolation Stakes... M. Bjuke received his first re May, who started "favourite forward when his candidate romped home a winner in the concluding race of the season. Mr. Bjuke re- gularly senda his grey down from Canton to compete at our meetings, and knowing the expense entailed for transportation I consider his effort is a magnificent one, and worthy of the highest possible praise.
the first race on the programme wou easily to pay backers with a substantial, dividend of $16.10.
Strathlorne ridden by Mr. Mat tingley was one of the first away, but appeared to feel lonely when he was up with the leaders, and soon dropped back to the main bunch.
It is A pity some of our local members are not made of the same dur Canton friend, and stuff na give the Fanling Hunt more sup- port than they do.
Apparently he did not care much for their company. He dropped fur ther back where he could enjoy the scenery without running the risk of getting his corns, trodden on by the ambitious and pushing young handled I am confident a course of Providing a pony is judiciously things anxious to get to the front.

Six starters faced the flag for this event, which was easily the best race on the programme.
To an excellent start Erin's Isle made play with Craigavad, Target and James Pigg in elose attendance. After negotiating the first "jump Erin's Isle was pulled in to the rear of the field and was kept handy behind James Pigg (Clark), who had taken up the running, and Target, was comfortably plodding along a length in rear of the leader.
