EVENT.
CLASS PONIES HAVE
A REST,
[By Early Bird.] The Third Extra Race Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club will be decided at Happy Valley this afternoon, the first race commenc- ing at 2.15 p.m. sharp.
The events have produced liberal entries from oners, who will have a variety of races in which to start their contenders.
There are two races for Subscrip- tion Griffins, three races for "B" Class and four races for "A" Ciass ponica. Class get nothing at all, which to say the least of it a bad business, as most of our
<
small owners will have to run their ponies in races where they will be outclassed or else leave them in the stable with no chance of collect ing a little for upkeep.
CANDIDATES' CHANGES. April Stakes.
The curtain raiser, which is a mile event for subscription griffins should supply the biggest turnout of the day. Mr. Heard, the crack jockey, will have the moùnt "on" False Alarm, but much as I admire his ability in the saddle I am afraid he will not be able to win the race unless he is a bigger marvel than I think he is. However, it is a moral certainty that he will be in at the finish. so I would advise backers to get on for a place.
Although ♫ disappointment to
date, Sunshine looks to have a very good chance in this event and with the assistance of Mr. Marriman
should just about catch the judge's
eye.
Ptarmigan in the light of part performances should run well and
may possibly cause a surprise if he is suited by the going.
Duke of Normandy should not be forgotten as he is a good healthy pony, and will be served well with Mr. T. L. Wong as his jockey.
Boa Vista Handicap "A" Class.
This six furlong sprint should be a good thing for Thunderbolt, who is one pound less weight for inches,
which considering the weight that The Pheasant or The Jamaica will have to carry should not be too much for the game little brown
pony.
Mr. Heard will have the mount on Lock Alsh, who may do better than a third, which he registered at the last meeting with a faster race over a shorter distance.
The Monk, piloted by Mr. Wong, is a great danger here although he has a good weight to carry. He is quite likely to register his first win for his new owner.
Moukhail will be ridden by Mr. Stanton, who has supplied us with. some very worthy offerings in the at Billmayanly...come home a winner.
Morrison Hill Handicap. Mowgli, who ran a beautiful race when he
second to The Pheasant last meeting in the won- derful time of 2.08 should have"no

Chesapeake Bay is a speed mer- chant of class if he can only be in- duced to run straight, but he has a most objectionable habit of boring out when pushed, which inevitably causes his downfall.
