MARINE COURT CASES,

OVERLOADED JUNK AT

ABERDEEN,

was before Comdr. G. F. Hole, The steersman of a trading junk RN., on Saturday on a summoni for carrying 51 passengers in excess of the number allowed by his license. He was also summoned for attempting to leave Aberdeen har hour without a clearance..

In the witness-box, L/S Mo Robbie said he was on duty on No. 9 Police Launch when he boarded the junk at Aberdeen. He found there were 150 passengers in addi tion to the members of the crew.

Accused said he had instructions from his master to take some pas- sengers off the Morning Star.. which was overcrowded. He had already a full load and was wait- ing to be towed by the Morning 9,401 Star. He protested that he was absolutely helpless and passengers persisted in boarding both the 3,500

launch and junk after they had 5815,300 | been told that the vessels were-full. Mr. Li Yan Tun, the owner, then made a statement to the effect that people had been visiting the graves in the Aberdeen cemetery that day being Tsing Ming They had been told that the vessels were overcrowded, but as everybody was anxious to get away quickly they ignored all warnings,

The magistrate said that he had no doubt the junk was overcrowded 6,258 and imposed & fine of 930 or 4 weeks. On the second charge, how ever, the accused was found not guilty and acquitted.
