The annual prize distribution at King's College took place yesterday morning in the school hall before a large gathering. when the Headmaster (Mr. A. Morris) reported a year of success- ful. progress in the various branches of school life.
H.E. the Governor (Sir Cecil Clementi, ECMG) congratulated the school on their examination, successes and paid a tribute to the teaching staf, especially the Chinese members, engaged in teaching English. He expressed his gratification at the work of the ambulance division, expressed a desire to see more intercit taken in the Boy Scout movement, and exhorted the boys to excel in virtue and strive for the highest good. His Excellency shook hands with each pupil as he stopped up for his prize and was accorded rousing cheers by the boys at the close. Among those present were Mrs. W. T. "Southorn, Mr. E. Ralphs (acting Director of Education), Mr. W. W. Hornell, C.LE, the Rev. G. T. Waldegrave, Mr. G. F. Nightingale, Mr. A. H. Crook, Mr. Ho Kem Tong, the Hon. Mr. J. P. Lee Keen Tai, former third mate of the s.s. Poo Tys claimed $107.50 in the Summary Court yesterday from Chan Tsun Tuk in respect of balance of wages and food allow, ance for his services on the vessel. Mr. C. A. S. Rusa appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. F. I d'Almada senr. for the defendant.
Mr. Rusa said the amount was claimed for services rendered be- tween July 10th and September- eath last year. The vessel was chartered last year, the charter party expiring on July 8th. The crew were paid off and a main- tenance party kept on board. The') latter consisted of a European deck officer, cook boy, third mate, lamp trimmer, two sailors, a European engineer, a fireman and an engineer's boy."
