ENGLISH AND WELSH AMATEURS
DRAW.
The Arsobal, West Ham United and Portsmouth wore firmly- hold down when they visited the grounds of lower Division opponents in the Afth round of the Football Association Cup matches on Saturday. A three matches resulted in draws and produced a total of only four goals. Among the First Division, teams to qualify for the last round before the semi-finals are Aston Villa, Huddersfield, Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers -all winners of the trophy in recent years. West Bromwich Albion, now & Second Division team and heroes of many Cup fights in the old days, also got through by a comfortable victory over Bradford.
With the exception of Huddersfield and West Bromwich, the other teams had to fight hard for survival. Reading reached the end of their tether, but they took one goal in a total of four from the Villa Bolton and Blackburn each suceded in defeating their opponents by one goal. The lowly placed Bary held last season's Cup winnera to the only goal in the match.
There were two drawn games in the third round of the Scottish Cup matches. The Rangers, Celtic and St Mirren who enter the next round were the winners of the trophy for the last three seasons. Celtic, who have won the Cup on twelve occasions, were beaten in the final last season by the Rangers, whose remarkable. form at presons promises a repetition of the "double" this
season.
Many of the League matches in the programme had to be postponed oving to diep mow on the grounds. A feature of the senior games was the defeat of Burley by Manchester United who also gained an unexpected victory against a strong side during the week.
