YESTERDAY'S FREIGHT.

RETURNS.

"GOOD-IMPORTS AND VERY HIGH. THROUGH FREIGHT.

TWENTY ARRIVALS.

The general cargo returns for the period ending at 9 a.m. yesterday were again very good. Local im- ports were well above the average, while a very high total was shown for the through freight. Twenty arrivals and ten departures were shown of which -six` arrivals and four, departures were British ves- sela. Both British imports and through cargo were high. Sixteen vessels discharged 18,803 tons of general merchandise for this port of which 8,984 tons were contribut ed by six British vessels. The two best returns were from the 8.8. | Ganges Muru (Japanese) with 2,504 tons of general cargo from Nagoya and Moji, and the as. Kut Sang (British) with 2,420 tous from Cal- catta and Singapore.

Through freights were very high, total of 38,138 tons returning from thirteen vessels. Four British ships carried a heavy total of 15,331 tons. The best carriers were the s.. Suterie (British) with 2,000 tons of general cargo from Manila, and the s.a. Trave (German) with 6.962 tons from Bremen and Foo

Kwangchow (British) arrived from Bangkok and Swatow with 420 tons of general cargo for Hong Kong.

St. Albans (British) arrived from Melbourne and Manila with 824 tons four, forzen meat and general cargo for this port and 841 tons of woo! forzen meat and general cargo for through ports.

The China Navigation steamer Kwangehou (Captain J. D. Milne) which arrived here yesterday from Bangkok and Swatow reports that at 3.50 p.m. on November 25th, five days after leaving Bangkok. Chinese Areman jumped overboard and was not seen again. This in- cident occurred in 'Lat. 13 deg. 45 min. N., and Long. 100 deg, 59 min E. The next day, November 29th, a Chinese deck passenger Lim Kau, aged 33, died from consumption. at 10.43 a.. on the morning, of November 30th, the vessel passed a derelict junk awash in Lat. 19 deg. 29 min. The Hermes, commanded by Capt. G. Hopwood, C.B.E., is similar in construction to the Saratoga, the Americza plane carrier, with its vast deck space, and its superstruc ture built on coe side. The Briti community is preparing an exten- sive schedule of entertainments and receptions, and plans are being made in regard to the athletic scc- tion of the programme.

Two New British Arrivals. The 6 Surerie (British) and the 3. Trelawny (British) which ar rived on Sunday and yesterday respectively were newcomers to this port.

The . Suverie was from Manila with general cargo. She was built in 1000 by biers Russell & Com pany of Port Glasgow for MessrA. Andrew Weir & Company, the pre sent owners. The Bank Line, Ltd. are the local agents. She has a nett tonnage of 4,030 and a gross of 6,386 tons, and engines which develop 589 N.H.P. The vessels dimensions are Length 460 feet, Beam 51 feet and Depth 29.8 feet. Captain S. Forayth is in command with a crew of 74, thirteen of whom are British the remainder being Asiatics,

The as Trelawny was built in. 1827 by Messrs. Hawthorn Leslie & Co., Ltd., of Newcastle for the Hain 0.0. Co., Ltd. (Messrs. Foster Hain & Read Ltd, mana- Mac- gers). Messrs. Mackinnon, kenzie & Co. are the local agents. Her nett tonnage is 2876 nëtt and gross 4,680 tons. Her engines de dimensions are-Length is 406 feet, velop 470 N.H.P.
