It is learned that the Automatic Telephone Office has decided to use reinforced concrete posts to carry the overhead conductors for their service, as being best from all points of view. The present "tele- phone wires are carried on wooden posts, which continually required- changing and renewal. For the new service, efficiency is. the watchword, and to this end concrete has been No. decided on as the best material to we fur such posta.

The China Electric Company, which concern is installing the auto. matic telephone service, has con- cluded contracts with two other companies for the manufacture of 350. posts within two months' time. The posts will be of four different lengths, 23, 3, 25 and 40 feet, and the work will be supervised by sperial experts from the China Electric Company.

MARKET FOR "AMERICAN

FLOUR.

It appears from a telegram receiv ed from New York yesterday that merchants in Northern China have placed unusually large orders for American flour, and all available stocks have been cleared to fill this indeat. Supplies for Hong Kong and Western ports consequently will be delayed somewhat.

The outcome of this is that prices in America have increased by five cents gold per bag. Dealers in the Colony met last night and have decided to put their prices up by ten cents (Hong Kong currency) per bag on stocks at present in Hong Kong, which is estimated to be over 100,000 baga.
