YESTERDAY'S" FREIGHT

RETURNS.

GOOD IMPORTS, BUT LOW THROUGH FREIGHTS.

The general cargo returns for the 24 hours ended at 9 am yesterday were not very high. The local im- ports showed an improvement but through freights were less than the previous day, Sixteen arrivals and fifteen departures were shown of whith four arrivals and seven de partures were British.

Twelve vessels discharged 11,005 tons of general merchandise for this port of which 9,520 tons were contributed by three British vessels. The two best returns were from the 8.3. Menach Mari from Haiphong and Shanghai with 1,770 tons of general cargo, and the s.a. Hardrot (Norwegian) from Rohsickang with 1,730 tons of limestone.

Through freights carried by eight vessels mounted to 5,129 tops and three British vessels contributed 1.137 tons. The best currier was the 8.3. La Plata Marn (Japanese) from Kobe with tons of general freight:

while the 5.5. Tean (British) carried 8,000 caska of cement.

The master of a cargo beat was before Commander. J. B. Newill, D.S.O...N., as the Marine Court yesterday morning for causing ob- atruction by mooring alongside the Yaumati Slipway. The defendant pleaded guilty and said that he went there to load cargo. A fine of 810 with the alternative of 10 days hard labour was imposed.
