The system of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1891 by the Americṣa Expresa Company with the object of creating a form of travel curranty which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company reg.stored the cheques under

the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS' CHEQUES' the word 'Traveller being spelled with one."1" The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system.
