LOCAL IMPORTS AND THROUGH FREIGHTS

GOOD.

LARGE INCREASES..

Both local imports and through| freights for the 24 hours ended at 9am. yesterday showed a substan tial increase over the previous day's returns. Local imports were good, while through freights were above the average. British contributions were fair.

Fourteen vessels discharged 11,441 tona of general cargo for this port, of which five were British ships and contributed 3,683 ions. The best carrier was the: a Daviken (Nor wegian) from Bangkok and Hoihow with 3,110 tons of rice and general cargo. The 23. Wong Sik Kung. which discharged 1,800 tons, was the second beat carrier. Through very good and freights were amounted to 18,378 toss, of which 6,904 tons were contributed by four British vessels. The best carrier was the s.s. Dakar Maru (Japanese) from Liverpool and Singapore with 7,369 tons of general cargo; while the s.8. Antenor (British) also from Liverpool and Singapore had 4,278

tons.

The 'sa. Poul Beats was towed yesterday afternoon to the Taikoo Docks for bottom cleaning. Her sister ship, the as. Charles Har douin, has also undergone this pro- cess, and is now moored to her wharf alongside the water-front, awaiting instructions from her owners for her projected run to Kongmoon. It is understood that a Chinese shipping Company the Sai Nam S.5. Company - is negotiating with the owners of these two vessels for a charter for this run,
