PUBLISHED TO-DAY
TO-DAY'S ISSUE OF THE HONG KONG WEEKLY PRESS CONTAINS MANY FEATURES WHICH WILL BE READ WITH INTEREST BY THOSE WHO WISH TO KEEP INFORMED UPON CURRENT EVENTS IN THE COLONY.
Professor John Nind Smith endeavours to explain
away the "misunderstandings" which have arisen regarding the £15,000,000 worth of contracts which were supposed to have been on the point for completion when he left England some weeks ago. Mr. Smith admits that he has not been always altogether. responsible for his actions.
At a social gathering in aid of the Ross Institute and Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Mrs. W. T. Southorn gave an interesting address in appreciation of the international goodwill existing in the colony which made it possible to carry out such a function so successfully as to net $5,000 for a most deserving humani- tarian cause.
A full account is given of the welcome to the Rev. F. C. Young, the new Pastor of the Union Church; who has just arrived to take the place of the Rev. J. Kirk Maconachie..
The remarkably succesful development of the Fanling Hunt is fully described in a report of the annual general meeting held this week.
Further development in the case against an ex- official of the Treasury who is accused of defrauding that department $260,000 are reported, relating to charges of misappropriation of water revenue.
