Yesterday's Statement.

The cargo returns for the period ending 9am. yesterday showed a slight improvement for local in ports, but through freights showed a decrease of 3,000 tons." Fourteen arrivals and twenty-six departures were shown, of which five arrivals and eleven departures were British. Thirteen vessels discharged' 12,737 tons of which 3,000 tons were con- tributed by five British vessels. The as Tongri (Norwegian) was shown as best carrier with 3,040 tons of coal from Chinwangtão, The 8.5 Clara Jebson (Danish) from Saigon had 2.500 tons of rice and general cargo: Five vessels contributed a total of 15,618 tons of through freights, and two were British carrying 7.168 tens. The Carnarvonshire (British) was shown as best carrier with 6,758 tons from Hamburg and Liverpool;

TWO DEATHS FROM CONSUMPTION.

Two deaths wede reported by incoming vessels during the week- ead. The master of the es. Anhui (British), arriving from Singapore and Amoy, reported the death of a Chinese passenger from consump- tion on October 6th, four days after leaving Singapore. The body was landed at Amoy.. A further report is from the 3.5. "Tai Fook Sing | (Chinese) fom Suigen, which states that a Chinese passenger died oo the voyage from tuberculosis.
