The general cargo returns during the week-end were on the whole good. Only moderate totals were shown for the period ending Satur- day 9 a.m. but these improved the next day. Over 20,000 tons were discharged during the two days, while some 33,000 tons were carried through.

Saturday's Statement, There were twelve arrivals and twelve departures for the 24 hours ended at 9 in. on Saturday. Im-papenor, October 17th. ports were low but through freights were above the average, though the British contribution was small. Ten vessels had 8,502 tons of mer chandise for this port of which two British vessels contributed 1,583 tons. The two beat returns were shown by the 3.5. Ryusho Maru |from Dairen with 9,120 tons of coal and general cargo; and the as President Grant from Seattle and Shanghai with 115 tons of four and merchandise. Five vessels showed 15,231 tons of through cargo of which two British ships carried 8,211 tons. The s.a. Amazon Marn headed the list with 4.900 tons of general cargo from Otaru and Shanghai, while the ss. Talamba (British) from Calcutta and Singapore carried 4,034 tons.

Yesterday's Figures ... Thirteen arrivals and fifteen de partures for the period ending at 9 a.m. yesterday showed an improve nient in cargo totals, the local im ports being especially good. There were six British arrivals and seven departures, and British yessels wers second best cargo carriera.

Ten vessels discharged 19,193 tons of general merchandise, for this port of which four British ships contributed 4,508 tons. The two beat carriers were the sa. Gingen Maru which had 4,350 tons of lime-" stone from Kwang Yee; and the 15. Kwang Tung (British) from Bang- kok, and Hoihow with 2,000 tons of general cargo.

Five vessels carried a very good total of 18,170 tons of which three British ships which were responsible lor 9,500 tons The best carrier was the aa Hakusan Maru from Middlesborough and Singapore with 6,580 tons of general cargo: The sa, Chatham-British vessel ander Japanese charter was second best carrier with 5,670 tons of coal from Hongay.
