RETURNS.
LOCAL IMPORTS DECREASE.
THROUGH FREIGHTS STILL
GOOD,
The general cargo return for the 24-hours ended at Ba.m. yesterday showed that the local imports were very much below the fine figures shown during the week-end and through freights have also decreas- ed but the total is well above the average. There were aften ar rival and sixteen departures during the period under review of which six arrivals and five departures were British ships.
Thirteen vessels discharged 9,064 tons of general merchandise for this part of which 3,210 tons were contributed by five British vessels. The best cargo returns were shown by the sa Automedon (British) with 2,193 tons of freights from Swansea and Singapore; and the Hirundo (Norwegian) with 1,080 tons of rice from Swatow and Bangkok.

Through freights amounted to 23,947 tons and of the ten carriers five British ships contributed 8,138 tons. The best carrier was the 8.1. Fushimi Mard with 8,088 tons from Middlesborough and Singapore and the ss. Automedon (British) with 3,049 tons from Swansea and Singa-
pore."

Rumour was current waterfront yesterday that the two Hong Kong, Canton and Macao Steamboat Company vessels now on the Macao run, the ss. Sui Tai and
Sui An, were to be sold for 8130,000 each and that new and bigger vessels but with a small draft were to be built for the Steamboat Company in their place. A further report was to the effect

Passing On The Wrong, Sida, Wan Loi, master of a steam bost Hop Wo pleaded guilty to a sum mans for passing a boat on the wrong side in the Southern Fair- way, when brought before the Marine Magistrate at the Harbour Office yesterday. He was fined 810 with the alternative of 10 days' hard labour,

Seven vessels brought 594: Asiatic deck passengers to the Colony dur- ing the 24 hours eaded at 9 a.m. The "Empress Of Russia.** The Empress of Russia which arrived here yesterday had on board for this port 48 first clasa and 67 second class passengers. There were 90 third class and 325 steerage passengers for Hong Kong. Five first class, six second, three third and 2 steerage. passengers for Manila.
