Yesterday's Figures, Sixteen arrivals and nineteen departures showed an improvement in the local imports for yesterday 9 m. Although through cargoes were not so high as the previous day the figures remained good. There were five British arrivals and departures and the through freights carried by Bitish ships were good. Fifteen vessels had cargo for this port totalling. 0,041 tons, and four British ships discharged 2,970 tons. The best carriers were the ss Hardrot (Norwegian) with 1,500 tons of general cargo from Bang. kok, and the s.s. Kaistu Maru from Wakamaesu with 1,700 tons of coal Six vessels had through cargo amounting to 16,371 of which four Massageries-Maritimes. British ships contributed 6,739 toni Chenonceaus, to-morrow, The best carrier was a British ship | Paul Lecat, July 31st,

states:-
The total revenue collected in the ) Colony amounted to 861.611.63 in 1927. The numbers of European and native senmen shipped and dis charged were 1,263, 22,378, 1,978, and 91,717, respectively, as against 1,450, 19,979, 1,484 and. 19,700, respective. ly in 1990
The numbers of Europena sod native seamen who died and desert- ed were 7, 99, 3 and , respective ly as against 2, 29, 4 and 18, re- spectively in the year 1998.

The number of European seamen who obtained certificates of com- petency under section 22 of Ordi-ASHGA hance No. 123 (Merchant Ship ping), as Masters and Mates for foreign-going ships was 4 and 5 and the number of native seamen who obtained certificates of competency as Masters and Gunners for local steam vessels was 3 and 5 respective- ly; and as helmsmen eleven.
The number and tannage of all vessels, ie, merchant-vessels, na- tive-craft, men-o'-war, etc., entered and aleared at the five ports of the Colony during the year 1997 were 91,110 and 42,817,239 being an in- crease of 1,908,230 tons as compared with the year 1926. --
8.5,"Cape Lay " Sunk Off Haiphong Ever
It is stated that wireless message received by steamer from the Sai- goa Naval station on July 19th, report that the Chargeurs "Reunis steamer, Cape lay was driven on to the rocks at the entrance of the Haiphong River during a typhoon. The boilers exploded and the vessel sank. At the time of the disaster there were 250 persons on board, and of these a number are said to have been drowned.
