[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
LONDON, June 1st.
AN IRISH MYSTERY,.
The recovery from a quarry hole of a sack containing a woman's remains har provided a startling development in the search for young Irishwoman who disappear ed a little more than a year ago.
She was a housekeeper named Mary Callan, and she vanished from the Kilcurry district of North Louth on May 18th last year. She was a native of the Culloville dis trict of South Monaghan, mod about 29 years of age.
authorities had redoubled their During the last few weeks the efforts to solve the mysterys sending Superintendent Hunt from Dublin. to conduct investigations
The police, who attached great Sir Alan Cobham, the distinguieb-importance to the case, searched ex- ed airman, has arrived back in haustively for the missing woman, Engiand after his 23,000 miles flight but all their efforts failed. round Africa. He was accompanied by Lady Cobham. The machine used was an all-metal flying boat with a Rolls-Royce Condor engine. Lady Cobham states that she was able to sleep for hours during the actual periods of travelling through the air; and she also could write and use a typewriter with ease. In this big machine, with four sleeping bunks, there was no bump- ing in bad weather, so that even a kettle balanced on a small spirit stove in the cabin, although” un- fastened, never toppled over.
As to the results of the trip, Sir Alan Cobham is full of enthusiasm
Last month, under his super- vision, a large ares of ground was dug up by the Civic Guard in the hope of finding some clue.
Quarry Pond Pumped."

The Dublin Fire Brigade started pumping last Saturday and continued until five o'clock yesterday morning, when up, and had been sunk by means of three hig stones placed inside. Civic Guards drew it to the bank and ita contents were found to be very much decomposed.
