"You know, it is a marvel in organization how s fleet of 17 immense President Liners can be handled with such efficiency and positive dependability! One week a President sails for Victoria, B. C. and Seattle via the Short Route, and the next week one to San Francisco and Los Angeles-via Honolulu. Every two weeks a President sails for the Straits, Colombo, via Suez to the Mediterranean, direct to New York, Boston and California. And every few days one of them sails Interport. ROYALIST HOPES.

Sir Percival Phillips, writing, in the Daily Mail gives the fallowing account of the recent Ministerial crisis in Greece and the dramatic return to power of that great Greek statesman M. Veniselos of whom sa interesting pen portrait is given. Sir Percival writes as follows:-

ATHENS.

M. Veniselos is again the strong mam of Greece. His political re- surrection has surprised some of his friends and discomfited all his

*neries.

No statesman could have had a greater triumph than M. Yeniselos has had He has come back after eight years in obscurity a little thinner and, with his beard and moustache snow white, but with his eyes behind their gold-rimmed glasses flashing the same fire and his decisive gestures proving that although-as he admitted to me a little sadly he is 64 he has lost none of that energy which his op- ponents find so disconcerting,

He has won his first victory in inducing the Coalition Government to remain in power. When M. Cafandaris, the Finance Minister, I resigned the leadership of

Liberal Party, piqued because his followers were turning more and more to M. Veniselos for advice, His brother Minisers decided to resign.

3. Calandaris declared that he would form his own "Progressive" Party with a nucleus consisting of sone 25 deputies, who agreed to follow him into the wilderness

Several grave issues were raised and during the past three days many daxious conferences of the party leaders have been held.

Me Venisclos remained impertur hable, and to all his callers kept repeating that it was unnecessary that the Cabinet should resign. Ile has gained his point.

The Cabinet will continue to function with the support of alt parties until the creation of the Senate and Council of State pro- vided for by the new Constitution.

These measures, which must be complied with by June 2nd, M. Veniseles considers to be essential to the solidity of the Republic. Then Parliament will be prorogu ed until October, and the various factions will be at liberty to follow their own leaders in future politi cal issues.

Then M. Papanastasiou, leader of the RepublieUnionist Party, after seeing me, proposed to the Royalists to agree to & plebiscite under the fairest possible candi tions and let the nation decide again, as it did before. which form of Government it would live under, and so settle once and for all this question. Again they refused.

What else can I do? I am glad the Government has agreed to re- main in office. In promising to support them the various parties are not binding themselves further than the prorogation of Parlia ment, by which time the Senate and Council of State will be estab- lished and certain urgent financial measures passed.
