MODERATE CARGO RETURNS.
GOOD SHIPPING RETURNS.
The shipping returns for the 24 hours ended at 0a.m. "yesterday were very good. Twenty-one ar rivals and twenty-three departures were shown, and eight of the ar- rivals and the same number of de partures were British ships.
The cargo returns, for both Hong "Kong and through parts were only moderate, but whereas the imports showed an increase, the through freights dropped nearly 9,000 tons.
Fourteen vessels discharged cargo for Hong Kong which amounted to 14,838 tons, and five British ships contributed 4,262 tons. The twn best returns were shown by the as. Amagisan Mary with 3,800 tons from Port Radon (Tonkin) and the 5.3. Kronriken (Norwegian) with 2,910 tons of coal from Durban (South Africa) and Singapore. The latter vessel is a very infre quent visitor to Hong Kong,
Through cargo carried by nine vessels showed a total of 15,754, and five British ships carried 1,217 toas. The ss. Gemme (Dutch) was best carrier with 6,800 tons from Botter- dam, and the .. West Dadron (American) was second best carrier. with 4,000 tons, from Portland (Oregon) and Manila.

Fok Kam, an engineer of the steam launch On Fai appeared be |fore Comdr. J. B. Newill, D.S.O., E.N., at the Marine Court penter- day morning for having 10 pounds of steam pressure above the proper pressure for his launch. The de- fendant pleaded guilty and said that he was towing a heavily laden junk across the Harbour and was head on against a strong wind As the junk was low down in the water, he wanted to get across the harbour as soon as possible to avoid accidents. He had only given the engine a few pounds extra pressure when he was stopped and arrested."

No Lights,
A steereman of a trading junk appeared before Commander J. D. Newill for failing to exhibit the regulations lights on his trading the junk whilst under way in Harbour. The defendant pleaded guilty and said that the wind bad probably blown his light out, and he was not aware of the fact.
The Magistrate imposed a fine of 815.00, with the alternative of twa weeks hard labour.
Chief Officer Of " Kochow '* In Hong Kong.
ME. W. C. Beck the Chief Officer of the s.s. Kochow.which foundered last Sunday night on the Wang moon Bar arrived in Hong Kong. yesterday. He called at the Har- bour office, and had an interview with the Harbour Master, Comdr. J. B. Newill.
