ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES BELOW AVERAGE.

There were less than the average number of arrivals and departures during the week-end. Local im 'ports for Saturday were low, but through cargo was high. This position was versed in yesterday's

returns.

Saturday's Figures. There were thirteen arrivals and eighteen departures for the period ending at 9 am Saturday. Boven British vessela figured in both lists. Local imports from tem vemels only amounted to 7,100 tons, and five British ships contributed 2,319 tons. The s.a. Prendent Cleveland was best carrier with 2,374 tons from Seattle and Shanghai The 3.5. Pembrokeshire (British) from Middlesbrough and Singapore dis- "charged 1,350 tona

Through cargo totalled 18,577 tons. Six British vessels were responsible for 8,564 tons, and three foreign vessels carried the remain- der. The .a. Nagano Mary from Calcutta and Singapore was best carrier with 4,417 tons, and the e.s. President Cleveland again carried 3,376 tons ne second best carrier.

With thirteen arrivals twenty departures yesterday up to 9 am the freight returns were slightly better. The local imports over 17,000 tons and the through freights just over 10,000

were

tous.

Local imports amounted to 17,558 tons, but only one British yeasel discharged 350 tons of cargo for this port.

Nine foreign vessels carried the remainder with 11,483 tons of kerosene by the 2.5. Japan Arrow, from San Francisco. A Chinese vessel discharged 2,050 tons of rice from Saigon.

Through freights were 10,320 tens and two British ships carried 38 tons. The best carrier was the s.s. Preusser from Hamburg and Shanghai with 4,477 tons, and the Kaut Hanion (Norwegian) with 3,000 tons of coal from Chin- wangtzo,

NINE BOAT PEOPLE FINED.

Nine bons peoplo apeared before. Commander J. B. Nowill" at the Marine Court on Saturday morn- ing for modring their craft within 100 yards of the low water during prohibited hours at dark. This is known as "ying inshore," and a special permit must be obtained should a 'master wish to continue unloading or loading cargo after dark. In the cases in question the boat people were arrested at Wan- chad. They complained that they were in company with many other junks and that they did not think it was necessary to have permit for that section of the Harbour.

Sergeant Goldsmith who made the arrests was in charge of the case and all defendants pleaded

guilty.
